Ynis Vedrin was founded by members of a former, Harry Potter-based role-play community. Acknowledging our roots, role-play at YV is loosely based on the universe of JK Rowling's novels (keeping the basic concept of magical folk and Muggles as well as the structure of her world) but allows room for more independence.
Houses
As much
as we like JKR's houses, they are stereotypical, reducing people
to one basic character trait, and the two "big" houses Gryffindor and
Slytherin tend to steal the limelight from the other two. If you
go to the new forum, read the descriptions of each house, and then
think carefully about where you want to be. This decision cannot be
reverted! Then send me a membership request to the house group you want
to be in, and we'll approve you for your favourite house.
The House of Dragonbreed.
Element: Fire. When the Fae first came to the
isle, there were still powerful, fire-breathing dragons nesting on the
peak of an ancient volcano. When the Fae promised to protect the eggs
with their magick, the dragons granted them their loyalty, blessing the
location with their good fortune. After the dragons had raised their
breed and left, the Fae built Dragonbreed in the very same spot. It is
those who serve and protect, but also those who spread their wings and
fly on their own, who make a home here.
The House of Crystalgist.
Element: Water. On Ynis Vedrin, water has always been the key to the
isle's most ancient mysteries. At the centre of the isle, moved by the
gist of a river winding across the island, the Fae built a millhouse
that lends its energy to the people living on Ynis Vedrin. It is a
constant reminder that you can never step into the same river twice,
that change is part of every witch's experience.
The House of Tigermoon.
Element: Earth. Striped terror of the jungles, that is what the Fae
first called the white tiger roaming the rain forests of Ynis Vedrin.
However, the legend goes that spotting the tiger at a crucial point of
your life will guide you on your path and show you what must be done.
The passionate and the powerful have built their hopes on the house of
the tiger and the moon for new beginnings.
The House of Cardinalwind.
Element: Air.In the gardens of Ynis Vedrin, where the sun casts its
magickal light on the branches in which the cardinals nest, there is
the humble abode of those who did not come to the isle for fame, glory,
or wealth. The creative people, the artists who thrive on applause,
those who know that everything you do is important, have chosen the
peaceful gardens to call upon their Muse.

will help you find your way around the island. The Academy of Ynis
Vedrin is located in the medieval castle at the heart of Ynis Vedrin.
Close by, you can see the amethyst mines. Scattered across the island,
you can see the four school houses, Dragonbreed, Crystalgist, Tigermoon
and Cardinalwind.
Vikos Vedrin is the only village that remains of the island's former
inhabitants, the Faeries. Students of the Academy may go there for
shopping and recreational purposes - but be careful, bargaining with a
faerie can be a very dangerous thing!
History
Ynis Vedrin
is an all-magical island that was at first inhabited by faeries. When
the Sidhe abandoned it, their Queen Titania gave permission to
Headmistress Medeia to move the Auror's Academy she was head of to the
island in order to remove it from the reach of the Dark Lord and others
who may follow in his tracks.
